Developing Effective Frontline Leaders

Today’s post is a podcast with Martin Armstrong, vice president of payroll shared services at Charter Communications, where he is responsible for overseeing payroll strategy and execution for the company’s 98,000 employees. Here he discusses the particular skills leaders need on the frontline of work.

Following is our podcast conversation, the latest in the series based on our recent book, Being Present:  A Practical Guide for Transforming the Employee Experience of Your Frontline Workforce.   In his chapter of the book, Martin writes about the importance of investing in the leadership skills of frontline managers. In the era of COVID-19, frontline workers have never had a greater need for managers they can trust and who they will follow.

Please listen in on our conversation below to hear Martin’s story and learn from his experiences .

  1. The audio was a little choppy mostly on Joyce’s side, and I finally just got dropped! Too bad, because it was very interesting.

    1. Pam -I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on this podcast, and your’s is the first that the sound quality isn’t good. I can check into this. If it doesn’t play well online, you could try downloading the file, then listening.

      1. This podcast also broadcasts to iTunes. The show name is Workforce Institute Radio. The audio is distorted on my side a few times, but it plays through fine to the end.
