Today's post is submitted by Joyce Maroney, Executive Director of the Workforce Institute. In this podcast, she discusses public sector cybersecurity with Alan Shark, Executive Director of the Public Technology Institute (or PTI).

Needless to say, data privacy and security are huge issues for everyone who gets online, but are especially critical for government organizations.  Baltimore, Atlanta and Riviera Beach, FL are just few examples of municipal governments that have been held hostage by ransomware attacks in the recent past that have cost them millions to recover from. It's no wonder that cybersecurity is the number one concern for CIO's according to a 2019 Conference Board survey.

We invited Alan Shark, Executive Director of the Public Technology Institute (or PTI) to talk about the types of challenges that confront local government leaders when it comes to cybersecurity, as well as sharing solutions that can mitigate those risks. His organization's research showed that 25% of public sector organizations have no plans in place to protect or recover from a cyberattack.
