Today, International Women's Day is being celebrated around the world.  This day focuses not only on womens' contributions to the world, but also on persistent issues that hold women back. Wage inequality affects women around the world.  Lack of access to education keeps women in many of the poorest countries in the world from participating in their economies and improving their standard of living.  Women everywhere wish for their daughters' happiness and success, irrespective of the obstacles in their way.  See this photo montage of women around the world reflecting on what they wish for their daughters.  Almost every one of these women wants her daughter to achieve a higher level of education than she herself was able to do.

Yesterday I participated in an all day meeting at Kronos focused on a significant strategic project.  At least half the participants were women.  Most of the speakers were women.  And this project won't be successful without the contributions of all those women.  Having worked in the tech industry for over 35 years, I've been in plenty of meetings where I found myself the sole woman or in a definite minority.

What I experienced yesterday wasn't an accident.  This 2016 report from Deloitte examines the root causes of why women are underrepresented in IT jobs.  Spoiler alert - it's about education and about culture.  Kronos has created a culture where work-life balance is encouraged.  Investments in benefits and leadership training have created a highly engaged workforce and a steady stream of recognition as a great place to work.  Today, Kronos was named a best place to work for women in Canada.

To celebrate International Womens' Day, women at Kronos  were invited to submit stories about what it means to us to be bold for change - the theme of this year's International Womens' Day.  I hope you'll enjoy and be inspired to #BeBoldForChange yourself.
